• When Should I Send Out My Wedding Thank You Cards?

  For us, sending your thank you cards out when the dust has settled is the best way to think about it. You don’t want to wake up with your wedding hangover and get the pen and address book out. But don’t leave it too long either!

  Many wedding blogs and planners will recommend around 2-3 months after the wedding date. While this seems about right we think it's more about when you are ready and have started to settle in after your special day. If you are going on a honeymoon relatively quickly, wait until you are back. Having to get ready to go back to work? Don’t put pressure on yourself.

  It’s important to show your guests your appreciation but don’t rush, and don’t leave it too long. 2-3 months is a good rule to follow but make sure it doesn’t add any undue stress that could take away from that post wedding glow.

• What Should I Include on My Thank You Cards?

  Unlike the wedding invitation, wedding thank you cards are a relatively new thing, well at least in the grand scheme of things. As a result, there is no traditional structure you need to follow when thanking guests. Personally we would tailor each one individually depending on the guests themselves.

  If a guest simply attended your big day, thank them for attending. Maybe they provided a gift from your registry? Thank them specifically for the gift they sent. If you want to get super personal, you could even provide a photo of the gift in action. Maybe they donated to your honeymoon fund? Great, let them know the details of where to plan to travel to. Adding small little details can go a long way to showing how much they mean to you.

  While adding the smaller details and tailoring each reply to the individual guest, it's also important to follow a few generic rules such as actually saying “Thank You”. Try to word your invite thoughtfully and with love. Warm messages go much further than just “Thanks”.

  Finally, it will be one of your first opportunities to sign off as a married couple. Get those titles and new surnames in there! Always a fun addition that is sure to bring a smile to the recipients when they read your card.

• How Much Should I Spend on Thank You Cards?

  Personally, we like to think of Thank You Cards as the finishing touch in your wedding decor. In addition, many of your guests will have spent considerable money to attend your wedding, as a result, cheaping out probably isn't the best way to go.

  At Story Amour, thank you cards are a little more affordable than our invitations. For 50 wedding invitations it will cost you in the region of $108 whereas thank you cards are likely to cost you under $100. Usually they are a little cheaper despite also including a folded blank area to write your message.

  Adding extras like foiling or letterpress is likely to increase the cost but can offer a really special way to wow your guests. Remember, these are likely to go on display for a few weeks if not months. If it's within your budget, in our opinion, spend a little extra to really add the finishing touches to your special day!

• How Many Thank You Cards Should I Order?

  By now you’ve likely already been through the process of ordering your wedding invites; ordering your thank you cards should follow the same principles with a few little tweeks.

  Unlike your invitations, we also recommend sending thank you cards to your wedding suppliers and vendors. They were likely a massive part of your wedding day and, as a result, you should show your appreciation. Chances are they will share your card on their socials as it can go a long way to encouraging future couples to choose them.

  Below we have put together a list of the suppliers you should send a card to:

  • Wedding Planner

  • Wedding Venue (Usually to the manager/coordinator)

  • Photographer & Videographer

  • Caterers

  • Officiants and/or religious leaders

  • Florists

  • Cake Design

  • Stylist/Make Up Artists

  • DJ/Live Music

  As well as your attendees and wedding vendors, it’s also a nice touch to send a card out to guests that couldn’t attend your big day but were or would have been invited, or perhaps sent a gift anyway. Of course you will need to adjust slightly with a heartfelt message along the lines of “Thanks for always supporting us!” or “Sorry you couldn’t attend. The gift you sent was massively appreciated.”

  In the same way you don't need to order an invite for every guest, you don’t need to order a thank you card either. Order a thank you card for every household that attended your wedding plus the list above.

  Finally, for a little bit of a safety net, we also recommend you order a few extras. Maybe not the 10-15% we recommend for invitations, but having a few spare can fix a problem should any get lost in the post when sending to your guests.

• What’s Included When I Order?

  All Thank You Card purchases include your chosen design, printed on our 324gsm card stock. In addition, we also include wedding envelopes (better quality than standard envelopes) for you to post out to your guests.

  You can of course personalize many of our designs with your own message or upload your own photo(s) from your wedding day.

  Our design experts are always on hand to help with your design. Whether that's helping you with choosing the right photo and uploading it in the correct format. Or maybe you just need a little advice in adjusting the message on the front of the card. No matter what, our team is always there to offer advice should you need it.

• Do You Do Thank You Cards with Photos?

  Absolutely! When it comes to wedding thank you cards, it's clear that the most popular choice is to include a wedding photo from your big day. It’s a beautiful way to personalize your design and show your guests how much of an amazing time you had on your wedding day.

  We offer both photo and non-photo thank you cards. Many of our designs have multiple photo options meaning it’s just about choosing the right design for your preferences. You can then upload your photo before making the purchase. Before sending to print, our design team will check it all looks great and send you a design proof to ensure you love it.

• Do I Need to Send Cards to Guests Who Didn’t Provide Gifts?

  Obviously this could be a little bit of a tricky situation to consider but in our opinion, yes you should. Some guests may simply be unable to afford a gift, they have supported you by being part of your special day and you should thank them accordingly.

  As we mentioned in our list of people you should send a card to, we also included vendors and you actually pay vendors to be there! Try not to think of sending thanks for your wedding gift or donation. Try to think of it more as thanking them for being part of your day and making your day such a special occasion. Furthermore, think of it as a way to show your appreciation for being part of your life and supporting you through it. A wedding gift is just a tiny way in which they have shown their appreciation to you.
