How We Created This Article
Defining ‘Wedding’ Company
In order to reliably and accurately break down the biggest wedding businesses, we first needed to define what we meant by ‘wedding company’.
Of course many businesses offer wedding related products although calling Amazon a wedding company would be highly inaccurate. In addition, calling Hilton Hotels a wedding venue rather than a hotel, would also lead to discrepancies in the results.
Our primary focus was to analyze businesses where the primary product on offer was of a wedding nature. These included bridal fashion boutiques, wedding blogs, decor companies and other vendors that provide services near-exclusively to the wedding industry.
Data, Notes & More
While the wedding industry is a massive marketplace generating over $300 billion annually, it’s primarily made up of local, smaller businesses often operating under private business practices.
To ensure accuracy throughout this article we thoroughly researched each and every business mentioned. Furthermore, we took data from publicly available information including the company’s official websites, press releases and other financial reports. In addition, we took data from reliable new sources such as Forbes, Reuters and the NY Post.
Where specific revenue figures were not available, estimates were used based on comparable data and market trends. In addition, the most up to date data has been used.
Conclusion
The $300 billion wedding industry continues to grow annually and it is expected to reach over $600 billion in the next 10 years. However, with many of the biggest wedding companies being high-street fashion retailers, it remains to be seen if the larger businesses will keep hold of their place on our list. Moreover, a changing market will likely have a big impact on the types of businesses that will dominate the wedding industry in years to come.
While the influence of fashion houses such as David’s Bridal is undeniable, the fact of their recent filing for bankruptcy shows the challenges many of the mentioned businesses will have to overcome. Finally, the emergence of online businesses such as BHLDN are sure to challenge the status quo as they use their online selling knowledge to shake up the wedding business industry.
